America the Beautiful: The Diary of a Women's low SELF-ESTEEM

This afternoon I was curiously browsing the internet, when I so happened, stumbled on this video on youtube named "America the beautiful" but it was a trailer of the documentary. While watching this 2 minute trailer, I was shocked at the fact that someone actually had the balls to speak up. Some of you might of heard about the movie or better yet, some of you have seen the movie. But watching the trailer alone gave you the idea of what this whole documentary is all about.

So getting back to the point of this blog "America the Beautiful: The Diary of a Women's low SELF-ESTEEM" the reason why I am writing this blog is to address some of issues that has been forever in the media, is the whole concept of "beauty". What is it really? Is it a person who looks like Adriana lima or Kim Kardashian...

Where did we as a society come up with this whole notion of the "standard of beauty", and how about women who don't fit in this status quo, are they quote on quote "Ugly" or a "Grenade"(reference to someone who is not attractive, always used by the boys on jersey shore). Is this the kind of nonsense we are publicizing??? In one part in the trailer, there was this guy who said " I look for a woman with a slender body? why? I couldn't even tell you why?". And to tell you the truth I am not really shocked about his comment, because you constantly hear this all the time. We as people have been so caught up with the way someone looks on the outside that we neglect the kind of person they are on the inside. For some reason the type of person that you are in the inside is not important in our modern world.

What is even more saddening is that women are the ones more affected by this, and this is why you see more and more women not loving themselves, or their not happy about the way they look, or their body image. Surprisingly, there was a little part in the trailer were a little girl said that she feels ugly when she sees pictures of beautiful models. I for one sometimes feel insecure when I see a beautiful model on the front cover on the magazine. I mean, mostly every advertisements that you see, they have sexy woman on the ad, doesn't matter what kind of ad it is. Like in the Carls Jr burger commercials were you see Paris Hilton wash a car in a bikini, Audrina Patridge on the beach and Padma Lakshmi on the stairs and they are all eating a burger in such a seductive way and you're thinking to yourself "who eats a burger like that???".

And those are the reasons why girls complain about there body image. They don't have a small nose, or they wish they had longer hair, or they wish they had lighter skin tone, or their too fat and wish they were skinny. Not to mention, the extend of what some women would do to look a certain way. Some of women become anorexic or bulimic because they have that image in there head that there to fat or they feel ugly....

But a least there are some campaigns like Dove that is trying to raise money to help little girls who are suffering from low self esteem. But my question to you is does the media play a huge role in what we perceive as beautiful? or does beauty lie in the eye of the beholder? Tell me your thoughts.... Do you agree with me or do you think that I am totally wrong and I am taking this the wrong way???
